The Black Morel is one of my favored subjects in the mycological world. The incredible, convoluted surface provides such exquisite camoflage that it’s possible to have one right in front of you on the forest floor and yet be difficult to discern.

Part of my Kitchen Paintings collection - a series of botanical subjects: fruits, flowers, trees, vegetables, and yes, even fungi, all back-painted on glass using old craftsman era windows as the support. Each work is an original, signed piece by myself, although sometimes I do multiples of a particular subject. The dimensions given are the outside dimensions of the frame, which is the painted wood window frame. The look of the frame is intentionally a lightly distressed state. Some side edges show vestiges of the window hardware indents. Frame has been sanded, repainted, and sealed, but again, with some decorative distressing which varies from piece to piece. All pieces are provided with a braided steel wire for conventional wall hanging and with small felt pads on the bottom corners to protect the wall surface from scuffing.
